With dozens of students and hundreds of hours of tutoring under my belt, you're in good hands. Every student is different and has different strengths, so I tailor my sessions depending on the individual needs and learning styles of each student. I try to create a safe and comfortable environment to get to know my students, and help them use their strengths to develop areas that need improvement. Please read on below to see if my areas of expertise match your needs, and of course please send me a message if you have any questions or would like to discuss your situation in detail.
SAT & ACT Tutoring
Before heading off to grad school in London, I was specially trained to tutor the SAT and ACT by an elite agency in Manhattan and guided students through targeted sessions using test-specific strategies that enabled them to achieve their goals. I am capable of helping students achieve success not only because of my intensive training, but also because I personally scored in the 99th percentile on both the SAT and the GRE, and through both personal and teaching experience I know what it takes to succeed.
In high school, I took all AP and honors courses, and with no preparation received a 760 Math and 720 Verbal on the SAT (before writing was included). I also received a 790 on the Biology-M and a 750 on the Math I subject tests. More recently, on the GRE I received a 790 on Math and a 750 on Verbal. As part of my tutor training, I took multiple SAT practice tests and consistently achieved perfect scores of 800 or high 700s for each subject.
I understand the tests, and I enjoy helping students understand the logic behind them so they can achieve their fullest potential. I go beyond the basic content review and provide students with test-taking strategies that are guaranteed to boost performance.
My curriculum starts with a diagnostic test or review of areas in need of improvement so we can target sessions towards building on these areas to maximize the impact of each session. I tailor the curriculum to meet the needs of each individual student in order to maximize their potential score. I assign homework to reinforce the content learned in each session. Attaining a high score on the SAT takes dedicated planning and preparation, and I am here to support and guide you through the process.
SSAT and ISEE
I have also tutored these exams, and approach them in a similar strategy-based manner.
Academic Tutoring ***I am willing to negotiate rates depending on the given subject and timeframe***
In addition to test prep, I provide academic tutoring for elementary subjects, middle school and high school math through Algebra I and Geometry, as well as all levels of Biology up to AP. I am also happy to help students develop general study skills, so if you are looking for someone to provide support in any of these areas, please contact me.
Location and Online Tutoring over Skype
I am based in New York City (Manhattan) and Northern New Jersey (Essex county). If you do not live in the area and are interested in holding lessons over Skype, I am happy to discuss this possibility so please contact me.
About Me
I graduated from Boston College with a BA in Psychology. I was also a member of the Honors Program and minored in French, and had the opportunity to study abroad in Paris at the Sorbonne. After graduating, I decided to go abroad again and found a position as an English Instructor in Tokyo, Japan. I worked there for over a year, then spent eight months in South Asia, traveling and volunteering.
Upon my return to New York, I interned at non-profits while tutoring part-time, and when I decided to apply for a Master's degree, I transitioned to full-time tutoring and curriculum writing. I moved to London and earned my MSc in Social and Cultural Psychology from the London School of Economics, tutoring part-time throughout. I just graduated in December and recently moved back to New York, and I'm looking forward to more tutor success stories!
