Here is a brief overview of my background and teaching experience, and my overall approach to effective learning:
I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in Studio Art and Art History. My desire to learn everything I could about art and artists lead me to a Master's degree in art history, also from Northern Illinois University. As a graduate student, I taught Introduction to the Visual Arts at NIU. My desire to share what I know with others inspired me to begin teaching in 2002. Since then, I have taught elementary students, high school art, college level and adult learners. I am comfortable teaching one-on-one, small groups of 2-5, as well as lecturing to larger groups of 35 or more.
For many years, I worked as a graphic design professional, thus the need to master digital design and illustration software. Throughout my life, I have sought opportunities for continuing education and have studied with many fine artists to master traditional drawing and painting.
My approach to teaching is simple: 1) to provide a safe non-judgmental environment for the exploration of art; and 2)treat each student like a precious object.
Let me help you see in expansive new ways!
