Hello,

I am a conscientious and effective Harvard-educated reading specialist who has some available slots in her tutoring practice this year.

I will collaborate with you and your child's teacher in order to provide the most effective support in any of the following areas: alphabet knowledge, decoding, spelling, reading comprehension, fluency, grammar, and writing. I also provide tutoring in elementary mathematics.

I have taught in some of the city's leading independent schools, and I have experience tutoring motivated elementary school and middle school students. My training involved instruction in multisensory techniques, which I incorporate into my individualized lessons.

Grammar

I have worked in the field of publishing for over a decade. In my in-house and freelance positions, top-notch grammar skills have been essential, particularly since I proofread and copy-edit a wide range of material. In addition, I have a BA in English.

Reading

I hold a Reading Specialist Master's Degree.

Literature

My undergraduate degree is in English and American Literature and Language. Therefore, I have read and critiqued a wide variety of poems, stories, and novels from the canon of great literature. I also worked on literature textbooks for a highly regarded publishing company. As an associate editor, I researched, wrote, and edited material contained in different literature textbooks.

Proofreading

I have been a freelance proofreader for several years for major publishing companies. I have proofread various types of material, including novels, picture books, chapter books, novelty products, public health manuscripts, and graduate school admission essays. In addition, I worked in-house for different publishers, developing my expertise as a proofreader.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to tutor in this subject area because of my teaching experiences in elementary schools and my public school teacher certificate. I have taught general subjects and led reading groups for children at the elementary school level. In addition, I am certified in the area of Early Childhood Education in New York.

Phonics

I have experience incorporating phonics instruction into my lessons with students who need reading support.

Piano

I am qualified to provide piano lessons due to my many years of study. I took lessons for over a decade at a prestigious music school where I learned about technique and music theory. I read music and play a variety of styles, including Broadway tunes, folk songs, and classical pieces.

Dyslexia

I received my Reading Specialist Master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
