I am a recent college graduate who is enthusiastic about teaching and learning. While earning a Bachelors degree in an interdisciplinary major (American Studies), I became well-versed in a wide variety of fields, including Literature, Classics, History, Music, and Poetry. Throughout college I tutored fellow students in essay-writing and study skills, and have experience working with students of all skill levels, including those with special needs.
My specialty is in American History and Writing (both creative and academic). I am available for both short-term help (such proofreading a paper) and long-term tutoring. Through diagnostic writing exercises, I will assess your current skill level and design a tutoring course specific to your needs. Whether a student needs help with a 5-paragraph essay for a high school History class, or a 3rd grade book report, there is no assignment too big or too small.
As a tutor, I am exceedingly patient, and I have a knack for finding the best way to engage the student with the material. The most important thing to know about learning is that it can be fun! If one method doesn't work for an individual student, I will work with them until we find the best path to success together. As an aid to teenagers with special needs (ranging from Aspergers to Down's), I learned that adaptability is absolutely essential in any teacher/student situation. If you are looking for a flexible tutor who can adapt to your needs, you have come to the right place.
I look forward to helping you out in any way you need! In addition to academic help, I also play a number of instruments (stringed, woodwind and vocals) and am more than happy to help with songwriting or introductory music lessons! I accept students of all ages, and I particularly love working with elementary and secondary school students (it's the most difficult age group to engage in Social Studies, and I am always up to the challenge).
