Greetings!

I am currently an adjunct professor and a graduate student pursing a degree in classical archaeology. I hold a BA in history and an MA in ancient and classical history. After attending college, I worked as a 9th-12th grade humanities teacher and taught 6th-8th grade test prep. With over 3 years of university level teaching experience, including online education, I can assist students in many different courses.

Outside of classroom teaching, I have worked for a number of world-famous museums and have spent the last 4 years tutoring students from top NYC schools such as St. Ignatius, Columbia Prep, Claremont Prep, UNIS, Loyola, Marymount and LaGuardia. Often serving as a “family” tutor, I teach all 3rd-10th grade subjects and also tutor American history, World history, European history, literature, writing, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, biology and algebra. I have extensive experience with AP and IB courses along with the SAT, SAT II’s- literature and history, regents, ISEE and SSAT test prep.

My teaching approach is very unique because it stems from a combination of different teaching experiences and education theory. With younger students, I make learning fun and focus on building core concepts which will help them be better students for life. With my high school students, I tend to focus on becoming an independent learner in preparation for college, teaching students how best to manage their time and efforts for maximum potential. With all students, I frequently utilize the Socratic method and customize my teaching style for each students needs.

Lastly, I also have extensive experience in American and UK college admission process including essays. When I am not tutoring I enjoy traveling, reading historical fiction and playing video games. Last spring, I spent a month traveling Europe after taking part in archaeology digs throughout Turkey.

American History

Holding an MA in History, I have taught American History to students in 4th-12th grades, including AP, and at the college level as an Adjunct Professor.

Microsoft PowerPoint

As an educator I have used PowerPoint on a regular basis to create lessons and presentations at conferences. While working at museums, I frequently used PowerPoint in exhibitions and as a teaching aid as well.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with 2nd-6th grades for the last 7 years. As a museum educator many of my students were of elementary age. I also taught 6th grade test-prep at Memorial Charter Academy and served as a 5th-6th grade substitute teacher at the Calhoun School. Lastly, I have tutored elementary school students from top NYC private schools including St. Ignatius and UNIS.

I have tutored students in study skills for the last 4 years including organization, note taking and test-prep.

Religion

I have tutored Religion for the last 2 years for students attending top NYC private schools. With a BA and MA in History, I have also taken a number of advanced religion courses.

Bible Studies

Over the last 4 years I have tutored students from top NYC private Catholic schools including religious studies.

Public Speaking

In high school, I was a state champion in Speech and Debate. I also participated in Mock Trial for 4 years as a lawyer and witness. Lastly, I participated in my universities speech team.

College Counseling

For the last 4 years I have assisted 11th and 12th grade students with the college application process. Aside from matching different colleges to the student's academic and social needs, I also assist students in essay writing, scholarships and financial aid, along with portfolios and interview prep. My previous students have been admitted to top universities such as Rhode Island School of Design/Brown University and Syracuse.

ADD/ADHD

I have previously worked as an inclusion teacher in a 9th grade Humanities class where a number of students had been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I also worked as a substitute teacher at a school with grades 5th-12th, which caters to high performing students with learning differences including ADD/ADHD students.

Anthropology

I am currently a graduate student in archaeology with an emphasis on cultural and bio archaeology. In the past I have taught IB anthropology, which focuses on world cultures. At a high school, as part of my duties as a humanities teacher, I taught classes on world cultures as well. I am familiar with both bio and cultural anthropology.

Archaeology

I am currently a graduate student in classical archaeology preparing to write my dissertation proposal.

Aspergers

I have worked as a 9th grade inclusion teacher in San Diego, CA and taught students classified as "high-functioning" through local education programs. I am familiar with ILP's and alternative graduation requirements.

ISEE

Over the last 4 years I have tutored students for the Lower, Middle and Upper ISEE exam. The majority of my students have improved their scores enough to gain entry into their first choice middle or high school.

Regents

I have taught in New York City for the last 4 years and have prepared students for Regents exams in a number of different humanities subjects including world history and American history.

Sociology

I am currently an adjunct in the social sciences department and teach courses on sociology.

Speech

I am qualified to tutor students in Speech based on my educational background. In high school, I participated on our school Speech and Debate team attending numerous tournaments throughout the country include the State and National Tournament.
