My name is Harland, and I am a personable and patient teacher with many years of experience with all kinds of students.
I have MFA degrees from Columbia University in both Directing and Theatre Management, and have been the Artistic Director of a professional Theatre and a well known Shakespeare Festival for 25 years. In addition, I received my undergraduate degree in English from Vassar College, while also finishing the degree program for a major in Biology. I have taught theatre for the last seven years at an Independent Private School in New York City, taught classes at a number of Colleges, and have designed and implemented numerous educational programs at schools in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island for 25 years.
I have worked with students of all ages and abilities, and have a teaching style that is geared toward making the work fun and varied, reducing the feeling that the session is a chore. I realize that students learn in different ways, and I have a very flexible and dynamic approach to teaching that reflects the needs of each particular student. Having raised two children of my own, I am sensitive to the changing needs and moods of developing students, and enjoy the opportunity to pass on some of my knowledge and passion for the material to the student.
