My name is Nick and I am a thrilled to be tutoring all things English.
My educational background: I hold a BA in English Literature from the University of Leeds, UK, an MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University, and an English PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) from the University of Brighton.
While at Columbia I tutored High School students in Reading and Writing for CUTTA (Columbia University Tutoring and Translating Agency). It was this experience that encouraged me to train as an English teacher. I have taught English in two high schools.
I've worked with students of all ages on improving their spoken and written language, their creative and academic writing, and their reading and appreciation of many forms of writing including Shakespeare, Modern Poetry, the Novel and many kinds of Non-Fiction writing.
I believe that the basis of all good English teaching is this: to help students become effective users and readers of all forms of English (spoken, written, etc.), so that they can decipher a writer's or speaker's intentions, whether they be novelists, advertisers, journalists, etc. and employ those techniques themselves.
I have been trained to focus always on the actions of the student. In my tutoring sessions, you do the thinking and talking and writing!! (And I guide you!)
I look forward to hearing from you.
