I am a French citizen and I have been living in the US since 1999.
Teaching and tutoring have always been important elements of my professional life, since I consider them as absolutely necessary for an effective management of human resources and for the improvement of professional organizations. I want to highlight here two teaching/tutoring assignments: (1) I was part of the training team of the Stock Exchange in Paris: teaching basics of futures and options markets to capital markets participants; program combined group sessions and one-to-one sessions adapted to individual needs; and (2) I was an Adjunct Professor in CNAM in Paris (Lifelong education for international students and working professionals): taught a 35-hour course on futures and options markets. What did I learn from these experiences?: (1) Using different pedagogical methods that can been use depending on the stage in the learning process or on the individual(s) being taught; (2) Structuring a course covering a specific topic: content, structure, examples, tests, and (3) One-to-one teaching/tutoring: I see tutoring as the most active and dynamic way of teaching. Delivering information is of course important, however listening very carefully a student’s questions, feedback, and emotions is equally if not more important. Rephrasing, validating, acknowledging are crucial steps in the learning process and requires dedication and patience.
Here are my domains of expertise:
• French: my cultural and professional backgrounds allow me to resort to various disciplines as teaching framework: sciences, art, literature, finance, contemporary history…
• English as a second language: my colleagues have often praised my written and verbal communication skills in English; I owe those skills to a continuous training in English when I was in France and since I came to the US. I Know what works and what does not work;
• In the course of my professional life I have developed an expertise in software/tools that are crucial for fulfilling my responsibilities: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher;
• Finance/Capital Markets and Finance/Asset Management: my core expertise in France and in the US since 1999.
I thank you in advance for your consideration.
