THE ART OF TEACHING IS THE ART OF FACILITATING DISCOVERY, someone said once.
I fully agree- more often than not, 50% of my job is to let you know that I am here, and to hold the space for you to access what you already know. The other 50% is knowing how to communicate my language, music or other craft in a way that will permeate your brain seamlessly.
Originally from Spain, I grew up bilingual (Spanish/Basque). I graduated in Social Studies and Audiovisual Communication, and in Classical Piano, before moving to NYC in 2001. I also hold a professional certificate in Arts Administration from NYU and am currently enrolled in the Integrative Sound Healing Practitioner certificate program at the Sound and Music Institute.
I LOVE teaching just as much as I love music and languages, which are not so far apart in terms of the parts of the brain that they use. I have been teaching Spanish to adults and children for the last year at a wonderful school called Fluent City. Before then, I tutored and taught privately. I have also worked with teenagers as director of TeenARTS, the Harlem School of the Arts' teens summer camp, and currently support the learning process of 5 to 11 years old children at one of the YMCA's after school programs.
Aside of my teaching experience, I am also an experienced translator and interpreter.
Why do I like tutoring? Because it is a very rewarding setting for teachers, since it allows us to really cater to the needs and goals of the individual student.
Get in touch, either for in person or for web tutoring sessions, and we'll take it from there!
