So if we're talking about a function graphed on the xy-plane

The domain: the set all of x values where the function is defined.

The range: the set of all the possible y values, or function values.

A real life example: the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide over a long period time could be thought  of as an exponential function (very small amounts for a long period of time, bursting to very high amounts in a short amount of time).

4(100^(2x+1)) + 5 = 4005

1.  Subtract 5 from both sides.

2. Divide both sides by 4.

3. On the left side, express 100 as 10^2; on the right side express 1000 as 10^3.

4.  Equate the exponents for base 10, solve.
