I'm a highly educated, internationally shown, arts professional and teacher with a BFA and MFA in studio art with a minor concentration in American Art History. A little bit about my professional experience...I've been teaching for more than 10 years, 6 of which was in the university setting and I currently work with kids and young adults with chronic health issues. My specialty is painting but I also teach drawing and 2-D design. I am trained in both oils and acrylics with special focus on materials and processes as well as color theory. I also worked as a guide at the Rubin Museum of Art which specializes in art from the Himalayas.
My approach to tutoring studio art is experience and process based. I teach skills and technique but also encourage discovery through experimentation, investigation and having fun. I find that students are more interested, learn more and retain more when actively engaged in projects that are skill and age appropriate but also interesting, socially and culturally relevant and fun. In teaching technique, I often encourage viewing and discussing well-know art as well as art from around the world.
I'm interested in helping you succeed! Please feel free to send me a message to talk further and so I may answer any questions you might have. I have excellent references and am happy to provide them upon request.
