Hi, WyzAnt students and families!
I am an experienced teacher and tutor in the New York City area, seeking tutoring jobs for spring/summer 2013. I am located in lower Manhattan (Battery Park). I am currently a PhD candidate in English, and since fall 2010, I have been teaching English at the college level (some writing classes, some literature) every semester, and have received consistently positive student evaluations since I began teaching. Students have repeatedly called my classes intellectually rigorous while emphasizing my contagious enthusiasm for course material and my approachable nature. I have taught mostly small classes, from four to eighteen students in size, and consider myself an energetic, compassionate, highly organized, and enthusiastic teacher. I am extremely attentive to detail, plan each lesson carefully in advance using a variety of dynamic, interactive methods, and feel committed to making sure no student leaves class feeling lost or confused or neglected.
For the past year, I have been tutoring several students in the area between the ages of 5 and 16 in Reading, French, and SAT Prep. In 2007, I graduated from Yale University with distinction in the Literature major, so my longtime background is in English and I am thus best suited to tutor in that subject, including training for the Critical Reading and/or Writing sections of the SAT I, or the equivalent SAT II tests. I did, however, also receive a 5 on the AP Calculus exam in high school and high SAT and GRE Math scores, so I would absolutely be open to tutoring in Math as well. I recently passed the French Mastery exam at UVa, so that is another area of expertise I would be more than willing to teach. I would also be more than comfortable tutoring in History.
I'd be happy to send a CV with a more comprehensive listing of my work experience and educational background. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions. I hope to hear back from you soon!
All the best,
