I hold a doctorate in history from The University of Michigan, have passed written doctoral examinations in classics at Johns Hopkins, and have extensive teaching experience in history (many fields including U.S.), humanities, and ancient languages at The University of Illinois, NYU, Fordham, and elsewhere. I have tutored privately in many of these fields. I proceed from the known to the unknown, use easily memorable approaches, review often by putting the same material in other terms, and use flexible individually tailored methods. I start by getting the student's background and specific goals and later ask questions along the lines of the test or course for which the student is studying. I anticipate potential problems, such as language, based on the student's background. I am not without a sense of humor, and I vary my approaches where appropriate. I know where memorization is necessary and I draw on my extensive and varied experience.
