I spent the last year as a tutor in Hong Kong's premiere extracurricular tutorial center, Capstone Prep, teaching IB Literature, ACT, SAT, SSAT, IB and AP prep, private reading classes, and academic writing classes to students ranging from third grade through high school. With two other senior instructors, I developed a new yearly academic writing curriculum from the ground up. In 2011 I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University, with a BA in History and Literature. I received a 2330 on the SAT. My tutorial methods focus on developing critical thinking skills in students, as well as concrete subject area skill sets--rather than simple memorization of facts and figures, I engage students in qualitative discussion about the material, and then devise ways for students to demonstrate their ability to thoughtfully apply their understanding. More than anything, my methods focus on understanding each student as an individual, with his or her own specific learning process, strengths and stumbling blocks.
