After graduating from Harvard University with a B.A. in Psychology, I spent the last year in China both teaching and studying. I have instructed hundreds of students of all ages, from as young as 3 to as old as 60, in courses in oral English, public speaking, writing, reading comprehension, and business English. I have done so both affiliated with companies and institutions, and as a private tutor.
On top of living in China for a year, I also studied Mandarin cumulatively for two and a half years, both here in the States and abroad in China. I have passed the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi), a Chinese-administered assessment of foreigners' grasp of Mandarin Chinese, at Level 5 while reaching the advanced level of Mandarin study.
Since returning from China I have tutored students in subjects ranging from economics to math to writing, and have also acted as a consultant for graduate school applicants. Each course and lesson is catered to the student's individual needs and requirements, as I draw on both multimedia and more traditional resources.
For language instruction I emphasize pronunciation, as I believe that true fluency cannot be attained without it; no matter the knowledge of vocabulary or the grasp of grammar for one to be treated and function like a native speaker one must sound as much like one as possible. That said, grammar and vocabulary are often most important when dealing with course-specific requirements or material.
Though I offer lessons in a wide range of subjects related to English -- reading, writing, grammar, spelling, etc. -- I am also available to tutor in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and college-level Psychology.
Both individual and small groups of students are welcome, and if you have any further questions or would like me to elaborate on any of the information please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to working with you soon.
