Hello! I'm an experienced tutor who has worked in depth with students in preparation for the SAT and in subjects that they have struggled in. I've taught college prep classes at an after-school program in addition to working with students one-on-one and I draw on that background to help students improve.
For the SAT my focus is on understanding the test and developing good test taking strategies as well as working on content knowledge. I've helped students raise their score by over two hundred points overall or as much as ninety points in a single section. For each student I work with, I customize our approach to the test based on their current strengths and their target score. Time management is huge for the SAT, so I always want to focus on making the most of what a student knows. Obviously content is the other critical aspect and I integrate a lot of vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and math and writing practice. I do my best to make it fun and understandable!
I've also worked with students from fifth grade through high school in specific subject matter including Mathematics, Science, and English Language Arts. I studied history in college and think the topic is fascinating so I'd love to work with a student that is struggling there, or who doesn't think that history is engaging. In all of these subjects, practice and review are paramount so I would use our sessions to make sure the students has a good grasp on the fundamentals so they don't get left behind. I would also check in on homework and projects because in my experience poor grades are often a result of not allowing enough time for large projects or of turning in incomplete assignments.
I tailor my teaching to each student I work with and do my best to make the material accessible and interesting; I'd love the opportunity to work with you!
