My name is Emily B. and I am a recent graduate of Union College. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in English and a minor in Studio Arts. I am currently enrolled at Teachers College, Columbia University, where I will be receiving my Masters Degree in Elementary Inclusive Education.
I have four years experience tutoring elementary school students in the areas of reading and writing. However, I have eight years of experience working with children in general, as I have been a nanny, a babysitter, and a camp counselor for children ages 2 to 9. I am extremely patient, creative, kind-natured, responsible, and reliable.
My English degree also qualifies me to tutor middle school and high school level reading and writing. I am proficient in both essay writing and editing. In order to help a student successfully write a paper, I believe it is important to establish a comfortable environment in which they feel secure brainstorming ideas out loud and asking questions. Once there is trust between a student and a tutor, then there is plenty of room for creativity to develop and achievement to grow.
My ultimate goal as a tutor is to encourage students so that they can not only learn, but also become more confident in their work, in themselves, and in a classroom setting.
