With all instruments, but the oboe especially, specialized one-on-one training is essential. The oboe is notorious for its complexities and subtle nuances, which are magnified by the often frustrating art/science of reed-making.
ToniMarie is a dedicated educator whose varied teaching experience ranges from elementary-aged children to graduate students and adults. She enjoys the challenge of tailoring her style and methods to each student’s individual needs, combining scales and technical exercises with interesting repertoire, traditional etudes, sight-reading, and, if requested, reed-making and English-horn study. Her primary goals as a teacher are to help her students accomplish their own personal musical objectives, to inspire creativity and originality in the learning process, and to promote joy in musical learning and achievement.
ToniMarie is currently interviewing new students for her private studio, and players of all ages and levels are welcome. Located on the Upper West Side, she teaches at her home or can travel to the student’s residence or school. She holds a BA in Music from Harvard University and a Masters of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from The Juilliard School.
