I recently graduated from college and I have been tutoring since high school! What I enjoy about tutoring is watching students have that moment when they finally "get it."
Since my background is in composition and philosophy, my approach is more dialectic. For composition, I will spend the first lesson or two getting to know the student and what they want to accomplish. Then I will find out what their tastes are. It is a matter of improvisation from there. I can also offer lessons in music theory and piano.
For philosophy, I will first give the student an overview of what exactly philosophy is. Then I will tutor the student in metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics in that order (this is the proper way to teach the subject) by assigning essential readings, the majority of which can easily be found on the Internet, and then talking about them. If the student has special interests, I can certainly find and assign readings tailored to those interests.
I also studied Arabic and can offer lessons in the language at the beginning and intermediate levels.
