I graduated from Fordham University in 2010, and am currently working towards a degree from St. John's University in Government and Politics, aiming to graduate in the spring of 2013.

I have references available upon request. I can work anywhere in the borough of Manhattan and will work in the outer boroughs if it is reasonable for me to reach the student and can be done in a timely fashion.

American History

I can teach American History in all decades. It is best to focus on a specific time period, but I can cover the whole of American history if necessary.

Vocabulary

Learning vocabulary is important because it helps one learn the meaning of a word as much as how to spell it. This is very important in English, as words in the English language come from a wide variety of sources, including Latin, Germanic languages, Greek, and dozens of other sources.

I can teach a wide variety of vocabulary words, their meaning, how to spell them, and how to pronounce the words.

Grammar

I can teach proper use of words, punctuation, and sentence structure, in keeping with the rules of English grammar.

European History

I can teach European history and tutor specific time periods, and focus on important themes, events, and important turning points, such as treaties and wars.

I do not focus very much on specific times, dates, and historical figures, though.

Reading

I can help a student in the areas of reading comprehension, parts of speech, sentence structure, and many other vital parts of reading literature.

I can also help a student comprehend many devices used by writers in their works, such as irony, metaphor, characterization, simile, and many other devices whose meaning is not plainly written.

Writing

I can teach a wide variety of writing subjects, including sentence structure, literary techniques, persuasive essays, expository essays, and how to convey one's point effectively.

Geography

I can instruct a student on where countries are located, covering almost every location on Earth, save for a few tiny islands or obscure countries.

I can also explain geographic concepts, such as borders, rivers, plains, mountains, forests, etc.

Providing specific geography questions ahead of a lesson is appreciated, so I can provide a more comprehensive lesson.

English

I can teach English, focusing on a wide variety of subjects, such as proper use of words, parts of speech, and writing skills. I can also teach about various genres of literature.

Literature

Students I teach literature to will be exposed to a wide variety of genres and subjects, and literary devices will be studied as well.

Focus on a specific genre is also possible upon request. Study of mythology and legends can be part of the curriculum as well, upon request.

World History

World history focuses on themes and social processes as much as it does on specific events. The systems of society and social changes are the main focus on the lessons, as these are the driving forces of history.

There is less emphasis on the deeds of great individuals, such as presidents and kings, but the lives of a few particularly important individuals will be discussed.

Economics

I am available for tutoring in basic high-school and middle-school level economics. Topics such as supply and demand, monopolies, elasticity, and important concepts and institutions like currency, banking, the federal reserve, and the stock market are all covered.

GED

Having a high school education or its equivalent is critical to success in today's economy. I can help you get the skills you need to pass the GED.

SAT Reading

The SAT is one of the most important tests a student will ever take in his or her life. A high SAT score can make all the difference when applying to a college.

As such, it is best to prepare for the test as soon as possible, and to get help in studying for it. My score for the SAT reading section was a 600 out of 800, a score high enough to be accepted into Fordham University, where I later graduated in 2010. I will help to prepare a student for the SAT reading section.

SAT Writing

Good writing is difficult. Writing on the SAT can be even harder, given time constraints and the importance of the task. The SAT is one of the most important tests one may ever take, and it is best not to study for it alone.

My own SAT writing grade was 690 out of 800, one of the higher grades in the country. As such,I can help a student prepare for the SAT writing section, and teach him or her the best way to write clearly and concisely for the highest grade possible.

Philosophy

I can teach Western Philosophy, going back as far as the Pre-Socratic philosophers, although my greatest strength is Plato, Socrates and the philosophies which derive from them.

Other philosophies I am proficient in include Utilitarianism, Aristotelian philosophy, the writings of Immanuel Kant, many Christian philosophers (including Augustine and Aquinas, among others), and the philosophies of the Enlightenment, such as early Liberalism and the philosophical foundations of the USA.

Spelling

I can help students spell words using a variety of techniques, such as sounding a word out, distinguishing between words with the same or similar sound, breaking a complex word up into simple pieces (such as "business" into "bus-i-ness") and helping identify common letter combinations such as "-ism" or "-tion."

Elementary Math

If a student needs help in arithmetic, word problems, averages, counting, calculating cost, simple fractions, decimals, percentages, order of operations, and simple algebra, I can help.

Elementary Science

If students need help in basic biology, geology, physics, chemistry, and how to read scientific terminology, I can help.

For biology, I can teach the kinds of categories that living things are divided into, the chemistry of life, and basic terminology, among other things.

I can teach physics and chemistry on a more basic level, covering basic topics such as matter, atoms, elements, compounds, forces, energy, friction, and motion.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught 5th graders before in the years 2009 and 2012. Both students saw substantial increases in their test scores, in subjects such as English, Math, Reading Comprehension, and Literature.

Additionally, I have access to a library of useful books for young students of that age, which should prove helpful for those seeking tutoring services at that young grade level.

Study Skills

Developing good study skills is important for leaning any subject. As a graduate student who graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and undergraduate education at Fordham University, I demonstrably have the study skills that are needed to pass high school and college.

My credentials in logic come from the semesters I spent at Fordham University, where taking at least two classes in logic was mandatory. I passed both with very good grades.

The New York State Regents examinations are among the most important tests a student can taken. Not only is passing a certain number of regents necessary for graduation, but passing more regents exams may result in a better diploma, and better chances of getting into a good college.
