My name is Jennifer O., I am 22 years old and fresh out of college. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Purchase College with a degree in Film and Media Studies, an English based major that critically analyzes the medium of film. Every year I attended purchase I made Dean's List and pursued both academic and artistic pursuits. As far as academic subjects, I am very well versed in film theory and feminist theory, theatre, European/North American/South American history, and Sociology. My writing skills are very strong, and I recently wrote a sixty page thesis about the films "Fight Club" and "The Social Network" in relation to Freud's essay "Civilization and Its Discontents" and our current generation. If you would like me to send sample of my academic essays, I would be happy to send them.
Not only do I have a strong grasp of writing, I also have a strong grasp and love of music. I have been actively playing classical piano since I was ten. I am a very strong sight reader, learn pieces quickly and am versed in musical theory. Mainly I play classical music, but I also love to play modern pieces as well. Some composers I like to play are Satie, Chopin, Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Bach (just to name a few).
I also love acting and have been acting in non professional, semi-professional and professional productions since I was 8. Last year, I completed the summer conservatory at the Stella Adler School of Acting, and have continued to rigorously work on my craft. As an actress, I work on speech/vocal exercises, character building, accent work and movement, and know a variety of techniques and exercises.
Acting and Piano are my two main passions artistically, but I am also very interested in makeup application and am very skilled despite no professional training. I have read all of the books on makeup application written by Kevyn Aucoin and Bobbi Brown, copied makeup looks from magazines and films and I worked as a makeup artist for my high-school drama club.
I am just starting out as a tutor and have had no prior experience until this year. Currently, I am teaching English to Chinese children and have been actively devising my lesson plans based on the skills of the students. While I am a bit inexperienced, I am intuitive, hard working and incredibly driven. I believe that learning should be fun and that people should never "stop" learning. Inspiration comes from all kinds of places, and I believe that a student's creativity and curiosity should never be stifled.
As a tutor, I prefer to focus on an individual and cater to their needs. I do not view students as just one of many; I believe that everyone is special, which may sound corny but it is true. Students should be encouraged to learn at their own pace and most importantly, students should be encouraged to have fun. Learning about new things and immersing yourself in new material is very fun to me and I would like to share my enthusiasm for learning with my potential students.
