I have a well-rounded educational background from one of the top design schools. I graduated Cum Laude from Syracuse University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Architecture and a business minor in Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises. I have been working since then at a medium-sized architecture & interior design firm in New York City that is well-known for their work in corporate offices and high-end retail. I have been working in AutoCAD for seven years now, so I have not only the skills and knowledge to pass on to my students but the experience. Being that I was a student myself not too long ago, I have the ability to look at the topics I teach from a student's perspective knowing the troubles and frustrations that each one can present to a beginner or even an intermediate level student.
I am able & excited to tutor in all areas of architecture and design including drafting (hand & computer), conceptual design, graphic presentation (in programs such as Adobe Photo Shop/Illustrator/Indesign, Microsoft Power Point, Adobe Acrobat Pro & 3D presentation/model building in Google Sketch-up and Rhino), presentation skills, architecture history, theory, and professional practice.
Architecture and design are tough subjects to master and even tougher when it comes to getting into the field, which is why I also tutor students in areas such as interview preparation, resume & portfolio building, how to network, and other career building areas specifically for the architecture and design field. I have worked closely with the Career Services department at Syracuse University, in addition to being part of the interview and recruitment process at my own firm. I have experience on both sides of the interview table, knowing the most frequently made mistakes by students seeking employment as well as what employers are really looking for and how to differentiate yourself in the process.
I have been tutoring students of all ages in the NYC area for about a year now. Additionally, this year I have been a mentor to high school students interested in the architecture field through the ACE mentorship program. Before moving to New York, I informally tutored my peers in all of the above mentioned subjects with success. I also worked with and mentored incoming students through a peer-advising program during my time at Syracuse and I now act as a mentor through the Career Services department to recent and upcoming graduates, answering their questions on the interview and job search process.
I have a wealth of knowledge that I am excited to pass on. I am able to tutor anyone from high school students needing help with their portfolios for college admissions, to college students looking for extra help from a relatable source on their courses and studio work, to soon-to-be or recent graduates looking to make themselves into a strong candidate for employment. I will work to help you (or your son/daughter) obtain the knowledge and skills to achieve your goals, with a passion and the patience to explain these complex topics.
