As a much-published writer and highly experienced editor I've spent 20-plus years helping college and high school students, as well as professional writers, cull and organize their material to produce clear and concise writing. Helping students structure their ideas and express them logically and fluently is a task I enjoy immensely, whether it's for creative writing or to improve their academic work.
English, my academic major, is another subject I love to teach. I emphasize critical thinking and analytical skills rather than memorization or rote learning. It’s a pleasure to share my students' excitement when they discover that literature has so much to teach them about life.
I assign regular homework and give frequent evaluations so that students are continually aware of their progress as well as what areas need strengthening. Students who have stage fright about delivering their work orally benefit from my many years of experience addressing live audiences, classes and radio and television audiences.
