Hello! My name is Robyn L., and I am a senior at SUNY Oswego. In May of this year (2012) I will be graduating with a BS degree in adolescent education and Biology. Through SUNY Oswego's education program, I have been trained in delivering scientific content in a way that is tactile, authentic, visual, and engaging. I have worked in three different schools through my education practicums observing and aiding master teachers. I have also student taught in NYC at PS 104 and The High School for Health Professions and Human Services. I have over 100 hours of solo teaching experience, and lesson planning, and have been given the highest reviews by my supervisors and cooperating teachers. With students in the classroom I try and bring hands on learning examples, and video into the lesson as much as possible. I always try and relate the material back to the relevance of the individuals' life and to human life. I find that engagement is increased when this is accomplished, and connections made are therefore stronger.
As far as my science background, I have studied general biology, field ecology, genetics, molecular biology, evolution, human anatomy and physiology, physics, organic chemistry, general chemistry, mammalogy, the plant kingdom, and geology. My strengths however lye within the first five areas mentioned, and that is where I feel most comfortable teaching/tutoring.
I have tutored with Say Yes to education, which is run out of Syracuse and NYC. I have helped high school students prepare for the NY State living environment regents. I have also taught a Zoology summer school course to children entering first grade. I plan on applying for the 2012-2013 school year as a full time teacher as soon as I take my last Teacher certification exam in April. I am easy to get along with, and kids like me. I am good at what I do.
Your Potential Tutor,
Robyn L.
