Why am I qualified to be your tutor?
I have more than 12 years' experience as an adjunct professor at The New School, where I taught more than 20 semesters of evening courses in Grammar, Punctuation, and Copyediting, as well as guest appearances teaching at New York University.
I've helped many college students improve their grades in literature and composition courses and polish their writing and essays. I've also helped adults in the workforce elevate the quality of their reports, letters, and memos to top-level standards.
Many brilliant, hard-working, successful professionals came to my New School class because they learned English as an additional language and thought they needed to polish their grammar to get ahead and be perceived correctly as professionals in the USA. What they really needed was some advanced ESL work in writing, speaking, and pronunciation. Many of them asked me for special tutoring, and I worked with several privately. I realized what I could offer them: the respect of a fellow professional and tested, proven methods to improve their English skills.
Eventually I went through two years of formal training in ESL teaching at the New School, graduating with a Certificate in ESL teaching. I gained valuable classroom experience in supervised ESL teaching and continue to take professional development courses in the field.
If you want to work one-on-one to improve your English, I hope you'll consider getting in touch with me.
I do have a full-time job, which also has given me years of experience training and teaching writers and speakers of all types. I have more than 25 years' experience in commercial book publishing as an editor, proofreader, and eventually, business owner. I have also written a weekly column about grammar, language, and books.
