"Zack is the best for Finance, Accounting and Career Advice"

"Discussion was centered around his expertise and was irrelevant to topic"

- Ian from New York, NY on 4/28/13
Zack replied on 4/29/2013:

I emphasize to all students that they are the owners of their meetings. If a student is interested in exploring topics of general interest to them, I will be happy to teach that material. If students want to cover material specifically from a study guide for a test, that's terrific, too. It is important to emphasize, though, that if you, as a student, have specific goals or topics to cover in a meeting, it is important to ask those questions, rather than others which may be of general interest to you. Ian came to me with interest in studying CFA Level II topics and I discussed with him if he would like to review free cash flow derivations, merger models, etc. He expressed told me that his primary interest in coming to me was his "intellectual curiosity" and to learn about finance beyond the narrow scope of his job. He asked me a lot of questions about the Fed, money supply, quantitative easing, interest rates, gold, currencies, etc. I taught this material, as he asked, and reminded him along the way that I am here to teach him as he'd like, and that he owns the direction of meetings. It is important that any student bear this in mind, with me or other tutors. Most tutors when teaching adults will respond to the direction and requests of the student, rather than force the lesson; and that certainly describes me. A note on rates: it is particularly high cost to serve students with one-time and spur of the moment requests. The rate posted on this site must reflect the cost of accommodating that student. However, for regular students undergoing a course of study on a regular schedule, I will be able to discuss substantially discounted hourly rates from what is posted here.
