I grew up in Philadelphia, home of the Philly cheesesteaks, and went to a private school there where I was taught not only to read and write well, but to love it. I have explored the world, have lived in Greece, Italy, Wales and California mostly because I found those places first in books. I have Master's degree in Poetry from an Ivy League school (Columbia) and I had a long career as an art journalist with a column in the New York Observer. I travelled all over the world for people who wanted me to write about things for their magazines. I truly believe everyone can learn to express themselves with good writing skills and that the world opens up for you through reading and writing. Let's have fun and learn whole new worlds. Grammar

Learning good grammar is like learning how to play a musical instrument: you must practice the forms until they become second nature and then use them to express yourself in a unique way. I hope to make the practice part interesting and to draw from a student's life experience to get the various grammatical conventions across.

English

I believe that strong communication skills add to a person's chances for success. Using a student's own experiences, I would help broaden his or her knowledge of and appreciation for the English language.

Art History

I lived for years in Florence, Italy where I taught English and Art History to high schoolers. In this regard, what I taught was mostly Italian Renaissance since we could see so much of it in town. When I came back, I covered the contemporary art world for various magazines and also became an expert on 17th century Dutch painting. I can teach anything Italian from the Renaissance, anything American from the late 19th century to the present, and 17th century Dutch art.
