Currently, I am a graduate student at Columbia University studying to become an Actuary, while also tutoring on the side. I graduated from UCLA with a bachelor of science in Biology and have been tutoring for as long as I can remember. After college I worked at a tutoring center tutoring elementary through high school students in both math and science courses as well as the math section of the SAT and ACT. Recently I have been specializing in the math section of the SAT and GRE. Over the years I have learned and acquired different tutoring methods that have helped to enhance the tutoring process. Not only does my past experience help but also my friendly and warm personality. I always like to connect with my students and make them feel comfortable while tutoring them. I enjoy making these connections not only as a mentor but also to make sure my students feel comfortable to ask any questions they need too. I believe that students constantly go from one subject to another without fully understanding the topic at hand. My goal has always been to make sure my students fully understand the material before moving forward. Not only do I tutor my students I also like to act as a mentor, constantly encouraging and motivating them to achieve above and beyond what they’re expected. My main teaching motto has always been that students learn the best when they understand the material rather than memorize it. Therefore, I always strive to make sure my students understand what they’re doing in order for them to truly learn the material and never forget why or how they did it.
