Daniel’s qualifications in specific subjects below.
American History
History has always interested me. It was my major in college. I also received a 5 out of 5 on my AP American History exam in High School.
Anthropology
I excelled in several Anthropology courses in college and the subject fascinates me.
Learning Anthropology, the study of what it means to be human, should give any student an amazing new perspective on human behavior and what makes us who we are. I look forward to unlocking the secrets of mankind with you!
Biology
I love biology and I'm passionate about the natural world. I received a 5 out of 5 on my AP Biology exam and an 800 out of 800 on my Biology SAT II.
Bodybuilding
Since I began hitting the gym five years ago, I've worked out with many different trainers and partners. I've practiced Vinyasa Yoga, Bikram Yoga, and Chi Gong. I've also been a regular at spin classes, ab-sculpting classes, and "boot camp" sessions.
I've learned much about physical fitness over the time I've spent at the gym, and I know a great deal about planing routines, which muscle groups should be worked together, how to motivate, and how to refine technique to ensure maximum efficiency and safety. I can teach my student/partner how to utilize all the machines and free weights for his or her own workout program.
Ecology
My background in Ecology consists primarily of personal research. The subject was offered in my high school only insofar as it was a part of the Biology curriculum. However, I had studied Ecology on my own since childhood, and I excelled in High School Biology, receiving a 5 out of 5 on my Advanced Placement Bio exam and a perfect 800 on my Biology SAT II.
I am very passionate about nature and have felt a special connection with the natural world since my childhood. I see the ecosystem is a magical system that works like a machine, except it is the most beautiful and intricate machine imaginable. Ecology, I believe, is a subject that must be taught with passion, and the student will only feel it if the tutor does.
I would love the opportunity to convey that passion through helping my student understand the beautiful world we live in.
Elementary (K-6th)
In high school I participated in a tutoring program with local public school children. Once a week I sat down with one or several children for an hour and guided them through their homework. My goal was always to see them believe in themselves and cultivate an innate confidence in their own abilities. I tried at all times to be attuned to what my student needed most - whether it was motivation, encouragement, patience, excitement, repetition, assurance, or guidance.
During such an impressionable age, children need to see that learning is fun, important, and a part of life. It's therefore crucial that they pick up on the right kind of practice and approach to learning. I received a Community Service and Academic Excellence award for my tutoring work in high school and would like to continue helping a new generation of people achieve their potential.
European History
European History was the concentration of my major in college. The subject is dense and I've seen it frustrate many people. My approach is to utilize outlines, anagrams, repetition, and lively depictions of the facts to bring history to life in the minds of my students.
The more dry a subject is for a student, the more creative I must be in teaching it and making it interesting in the student's mind.
Government & Politics
I know government and politics well. I received a perfect 5 score on my AP U.S. Government exam in high school. I was also very involved in student government in college and interacted with many city and state leaders. I attended conferences and rallies in New York City, Albany, and Washington D.C.
I can use my personal experience and academic knowledge to give my student an edge in understanding the political system in which they live.
Hebrew
My elementary school was the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County. I have studied Hebrew since the first grade. In my gap year after high school I lived in Israel for a year and became semi-fluent. Hebrew is also the language I pray in.
Literature
To tutor this subject, I familiarize myself with the literature my student is studying. Having gone through school, and having read many works on my own, I will have probably already read whichever book my student is studying.
Logic
I excelled in my college Logic course and tutored my peers as well. I am adept at explaining inductive/deductive arguments, standardizing sentences, vendiagrams, syllogisms, figures and moods, distribution, propositional logic, truth tables, rules of inference, rules of replacement/equivalence, predicate logic, and more.
Philosophy
Philosophy is one of the toughest areas of study because it requires a mode of thinking that's outside the box. The subject is very much about nuance, connecting ideas, and making logical sense of abstractions.
I've taken philosophy courses in college and I've helped my fellow students grasp the material and remember it for exams.
Proofreading
I can certainly help a student proofread his or her work. I have written many A papers in college and also wrote for the college newspaper.
Public Speaking
I am skilled at public speaking. As President and Vice President of my student government in college, I had to speak on many different occasions and to different types of crowds. I spoke in classrooms, at meetings, in the Senate, when campaigning, etc. I also chaired various committees.
Reading
I am an avid reader and can certainly help a student overcome difficulties and read more efficiently and accurately.
Regents
I have achieved excellent scores on all of my Regents exams and would be happy to prepare my students for their own exams. I would be especially adept at tutoring for the Regents in Biology, US and World History, Chemistry, English, and Spanish. I also have knowledge, from my experience, of what the best preparation tools are.
Religion
I find every religion beautiful in its own way and have studied many of them over the course of the past few years. In college I was particularly interested in understanding how the world's many religions originated, developed, progressed, and what they teach us about humanity. In my classes I studied Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, including works by authors of all three religious persuasions. I also have more extensive background knowledge in Jewish tradition and texts.
Religion is where history and philosophy merge, and I would enjoy exploring the subject with my student.
SAT Reading
The SAT is the most important exam a student will take in high school and preparation is absolutely essential. I can guide my student's progress in reading and help them achieve their goals.
Social Studies
Social Studies was one of my favorite subjects in school. It requires not only memorization, but a resolute understanding of the nuanced differences between cultures and the interests that drive human activity. I excelled in this subject, whether it focused on the history of Europe, Asia, Africa, the United States, or humanity in general. I was also able to help my peers study for exams and prepare their essays.
I believe that for a study that centers on the portrait of human activity across the ages, what the student may need is to feel how the subject relates to them and their own human experience.
Vocabulary
A great vocabulary will give any student an edge in life. On his or her own, it is usually much harder for a student to devote themselves to improving their vocabularies than it would be with someone to help them.
I can practice with a student for as long as necessary to help them build their vocabulary, whether it's for the SAT's, GRE's, or English-class vocab exams.
Voice (Music)
I sang in a professional choir for five years. We toured the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Israel. I was also a soloist in the choir and have been recorded on several CD's and videos. I know techniques for developing voice and pitch.
World History
I was a history major in college. Through WyzAnt, I have helped several students achieve success in World and American History, particularly for their regents.
My approach is to utilize outlines, anagrams, repetition, and lively depictions of the facts to bring history to life in the minds of my students.
The more dry a subject is for a student, the more creative I must be in teaching it and making it interesting to the student.
Writing
One can become a much better writing by following a few basic principles. I succeeded in high school and college by figuring out what was being looked for by those who graded my papers, and adding the extra flare to make my paper stand out.
I have written tutorials, essays, research papers, short stories, poems, and even a few rap songs.
Yoga
I have practiced yoga for 4 years and in that time I have studied a variety of techniques such as Chi Gong, Bikram, Vinyasa, "partner," and Dahn. I am very familiar with the poses, breathing techniques, and philosophy. Personalized yoga is the optimal way to get the most out of your practice. I would also enhance sessions with excellent meditation music that I have been exposed to over the years.
Yoga is an excellent enhancer to one's quality of life and I would be glad to help someone new achieve greater peace of body and mind.
