Hello! My name is Jehan and I graduated in 2010 with a B.A. in English and minors in Spanish and Journalism from the University of Missouri. I'm very interested in the different ways humans interact with one another, specifically using written communication. It may be because I am a writer, but the ability to really reach people and affect them with your words, thoughts, and opinions is such a wonderful skill to have; it's something I've really enjoyed helping my students with as well. I spent several years tutoring elementary and middle school aged children in English, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics throughout high school and college. Most recently, I worked with a group to help recent immigrants from Cuba learn to speak and write English. One of my most memorable experiences was when my student, Eduardo, called to tell me he'd been hired as a Spanish professor at the university. He said it was because of the work we did perfecting his resume and because I helped him realize that being a Spanish speaker was not a handicap, but an asset.
I give this only as an example of the kind of work I love to do and of my teaching method-simply the belief that every student is capable of achieving their goals and that, often, what they may believe to be a hindrance may be their greatest asset. I truly enjoy working with people and feel that tutoring can be a rewarding experience for both the tutor and the student. I know I've learned quite a bit from every student I've had in the past, and I look forward to the opportunity of learning from future students. I am available to teach English, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, and Basic Spanish language skills (written and spoken). I look forward to hearing from you.
