I am a full-time professional tutor. My job is to work with students, parents and teachers to achieve academic goals and develop cognitive skills. A lot of what I do has to do with diagnosing specific performance gaps and using a highly personalized approach to target and fix them. The majority of my students need help with math, specifically algebra and standardized testing like the SAT. For English and writing support, I coach students through the development of an essay with an analytic and structured language arts model that produces sustainable results.

It's common for students to say and truly feel that they are comfortable with a concept and then fail to perform on a test or assignment. This is a result of both study as well as teaching methods. Unfortunately, many educators focus on passively showing instead of actively teaching students how to solve problems. This facilitates the mere impression of knowledge, rather than fostering a real, lasting understanding of the material.

Algebra 1

Of all the subjects, math is the most cumulative. For this reason it is important to make sure past concepts are fully understood and retained long-term. Having an experienced tutor to fill in any gaps can make a big difference on class and test scores.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been tutoring full-time for over five years, and have also tutored during college. In that time, a significant number of my students have been in elementary school. I work with students, parents, and oftentimes elementary school teachers to help improve core math and reading skills. It is common for the parents of one of my high school students to have me begin tutoring their younger, K-6 sibling to prevent the extra work it takes to remedy a lack of early skills later.

College Counseling

Regents

As a full-time tutor since graduating from Columbia University and a native New Yorker, I have a lot of Regents experience. The most common standardized tests with which I help my students are Regents exams. While Regents exams are not as intensive as SAT IIs or AP exams, they do require guided practice and understanding.
