I am not just another tutor. I am also an accomplished writer, and instructor - and star student! I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Anthropology, and graduated summa cum laude (SUNY at Buffalo). I then earned a Master’s Degree in English with honors from Columbia University and completed most of my doctoral credits on full academic scholarship. I also won a NY Times Foundation scholarship to NYU Writer’s Conference.
I have about 15 years of experience as a tutor and have taught writing, critical thinking, film and literature on the college and university level for more than 15 years, working with all levels of students. I've tutored successfully for private test prep companies in California and at UCLA. My expertise is test preparation and interdisciplinary writing and literature, from high school to Ph.D. level. I also have very successful experience with the SAT (Verbal and literature), GRE, and GMAT.
I have particular expertise as a college admissions essay coach; I've worked with students crafting persuasive college and professional school admissions essays. My students have been admitted to prestigious and selective universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, NYU and Georgetown University. I have also also had some remarkable, quick and dramatic results, boosting students' test scores on standardized tests by 100-150 points on one section of the exam in as few as three or four sessions.
I've successfully worked with students revising doctoral dissertations and Master’s essays in multiple disciplines - including political science and applied mathematics, worked with adults sharpening their business and non-fiction writing skills, and helped students with college-level essays in the humanities, social sciences, and applied mathematics. She even helped an attorney pass the Bar exam (analytical writing).
I am a widely-published magazine writer, researcher and editor. My most recent project was as project manager and writer of a distance learning course on becoming a fashion stylist - I developed, produced, and wrote the entire course. I've also had more than 55 publications including several in prominent magazines like Wine Enthusiast and Art in America and written publicity and biographical articles. As a researcher for a very prominent political strategist, I contributed to two published books published on politics and international relations and wrote research reports read by Hillary Clinton.
I studied classical piano as a child at Juilliard School of Music. She continues her professional development and has completed numerous classes in education, film, creative writing, journalism, public relations writing, and more recently, college algebra and lifespan psychology at NYU, UCLA, and Hunter College (3.7+ gpa).
I'm an empathetic and effective tutor.
