Greetings -
I am just finishing my third year as a medical student in New York City and am now a research coordinator for a large clinical trial. I graduated Class of 2009 from Princeton University with honors in the Political Science department as well as a minor in Latin American Studies. I was the recipient of 4 awards/grants with a total in excess of $5,000. Activities that I participated in during college and/or now on a regular basis include the Equestrian Team, teaching horseback riding to children, working as an EMT, Director of the Health Policy Initiative for my medical school, Co-Director of the HIV Program at the East Harlem Health Outreach Program, Research on Sarcoidosis through an immunology laboratory via a grant from the National Institutes of Health and various tutoring positions.
My tutoring experience consists of extensive peer tutoring in college in the subjects of chemistry, biology, statistics, and neuroscience. Having been in New York city for over three years, my primary tutoring job has included one year working weekly/biweekly with a high school individual with hearing impairment in the subjects of biology, AP biology and calculus. As well as tutoring biochemistry, college physics and medical school courses for students through WyzAnt. My strongest subjects in high school (including high scores on AP exams - 4 or 5) included Calculus AB/BC, Biology, Chemistry, Physics C, Psychology, US History and Probability and Statistics. In college my coursework generally concerned the biologic sciences (biochemistry, organic chemistry, immunology, virology, infectious disease, neuroscience), as well as general sciences (chemistry & physics), political science (international relations as well as comparative politics). I am extremely proficient in any of the above listed coursework and can teach almost all subjects at the high school level.
My approach to my relationship with a student that I am tutoring is as follows: I establish a baseline and a set of goals. I first assess what the student and the student's family is hoping to achieve in our work together - whether it be one session or weekly for a year. Secondly, I attempt to determine the current level of knowledge and current weaknesses. I try to utilize a schedule whenever possible; this takes into consideration our work as well as the student's other obligations. The schedule is designed to allow for appropriate studying methods, which we discuss, as well as flexibility as I understand this fundamental need in a student's life. After beginning our work together my primary concerns are to receive feedback from the student and family in order to adjust our work to be as productive and enjoyable as possible. I also like to look at graded exams and assignments from class in order to help assess whether the student's errors are from misunderstanding a question, lack of knowledge, and/or lack test taking skills.
I love education - both from the side as the student and as the teacher. My enthusiasm carries over into my interactions with students because I am a bubbly, happy person. My overall goals are to the please the client and to be adaptable whenever possible.
Please contact me if you are interested in how I can be of assistance.
I look forward to hearing from you.
