I will help you with every aspect of English (or ESL): reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and proofreading. After 25 years as a successful freelance writer, with thousands of articles published in The New York Times and other newspapers and magazines, I earned a TESOL Certificate from Columbia University. My goal now is to help native English speakers as well as newcomers to the US learn to speak, read and write excellent English. These skills are not only basic to good communication; they are also vital in achieving personal success. I can teach you strategies for passing the TOEFL and GED that will also strengthen your writing and reading abilities for the rest of your life. My approach is to teach English in everyday situations rather than through older techniques like repetition and memorization alone. An ESL reading lesson might be focused on understanding a menu or a train schedule. A writing assignment might begin with writing a TV review and lead to an essay about the changing role of TV in our society. Grammar is one of my specialties. You can't communicate effectively without it, but TESOL students--as well as native English speakers--struggle more with grammar than anything else in English. Grammar is a highway for ideas, and when the highway is blocked, the ideas stall. My job is to help students express their ideas, so they can speak and write without fear.
