I am a native Italian professional language and diction instructor living in NYC.
I have more than 5 years of experience as an Italian language and diction instructor, profession that I have successfully performed for important Italian institutions such as the Teatro Comunale in Bologna as well as, more recently, for several different companies in New York City.
I recently also became a professional interpreter and translator for an international translations company based in NYC.
Here's what some of my employers think about my work:
“I am pleased to recommend Sara G. as an instructor in the Italian language. Ms. G., a well-trained Opera singer and budding stage director, was engaged by Chelsea Opera in 2010 to coach our singers in preparation for a full production of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro”. She did so with enthusiasm and never waivered when faced with blatant American vowels in several of the singers.
"What became even more valuable was her native ability to explain why a character said something in such a way, or when a word or phrase had more than one meaning in its particular context. This deeper understanding of the language gave the singers the ability to present a fully rounded character, beyond the obvious.
"Ms. G. worked tirelessly to coach a cast of 14 principal singers. Word from the singers was that they enjoyed working with her as well.”
- Lynne H., Co-founder at Chelsea Opera
“Sara G. has an excellent ear for languages and therefore makes a terrific Italian diction coach. I coached the Italian for the role of Bartolo in "Le Nozze di Figaro" with her and it was a big help with the patter section of the aria "La Vendetta." Sara is very professional and positive to coach with, so I recommend her as a coach without reservation.”- Nick H., bass
“Sara G. is such an excellent Italian diction coach, whom I had the pleasure working with while preparing for Mimi in "La Bohème”, among other roles. Ms. G. is always eager to help singers, very persistent yet patient in guiding singers to master their craft. She pays attention to detail and is able to give clear advices in pronouncing and making each phrase eloquent. Her being a singer and a stage director makes her an extremely expressive and versatile teacher with a deep understanding of the world of diction for singing. Her talent, determination and dedication to help the singers to be the best they can be truly inspired me and made me confident in Italian repertoire. I strongly recommend her for any singers as their Italian coach.”
- Junko W., soprano
“You will not regret collaborating with Sara. She is nothing short of extraordinary as an Italian diction coach and helped take my preparation of Marcello to the next level. Sara is gifted, creative and passionate. Hire Her.”
- Martin F., baritone
“Ms. G. is a fantastic Italian diction coach! She is persistent, and detail-oriented, yet patient and professional at the same time. I was so impressed by her help with a role of mine that I brought in several arias to work on with her, and we went through each in great depth. Her guidance was extremely valuable to me, and whenever I sing those arias now, I am grateful to her. I wholeheartedly recommend her!”- Eric B., tenor
“I was coaching Figaro in "Le Nozze di Figaro" with Ms. G. and in the short time that was available to us she was able to show me the true way of singing in Italian. Because she is a native Italian speaker, an opera singer and a fluent English speaker, she made it easier to follow her direction. Even now I try to apply some of her coachings to my Italian diction. I would strongly suggest Sara to anyone who would like to improve their Italian diction.”
- Isaac G., baritone
