I have a Ph.D. in genetics & Molecular Biology, a Laurea (a terminal degree) in General Biology, and a Diploma in Humanities.
I have taught for many years various disciplines of natural sciences, served as adviser, mentor, and tutor of students and postdocs, as well as Program Director of Graduate Studies.
I relate well to learners of different ages and multi-cultural backgrounds. I have taught and lectured in three languages on a broad range of biological topics to diverse audiences.
I attribute an extraordinary formative power to the teaching of biology. A biological mentality makes one appreciate, relish and protect diversity, and is averse to ranking differences in terms of superiority or inferiority.
Having done experimentally what I teach, I reconstruct the intellectual climate of the scientists that did that work: how did the investigation arise, what was the available evidence, what the current views on the issue. Then I reconstruct the experimental approach, present the data in simplified form and reason along with the student about their significance.
