Hi! My name is Zandra and I'm a great tutor, mentor, and friend to have in your academic corner. I'v been lucky enough to have some of the best educational experiences around, and nothing makes me more excited than being able to share what I've learned with my students. I've had hundreds over the years, and whether I'm helping you with high school, college, MCAT prep, or creative projects, I find that I learn as much from you guys as you do from me.
I graduated from Harvard in 2008, where I studied Human Evolutionary Biology and Mind/Brain/Behavior, and did a lot of theater for fun. Before going to med school I took a three year detour to explore my other passion and work as an actor and screenwriter in Los Angeles. These were also some of my busiest tutoring years. In August of 2001 I moved to NYC to attend Columbia Medical School and I'm still there now - finishing my clinical rotations as a third year student.
I've tutored hundreds of students in a broad range of topics, including writing, biology, admissions counseling, literature, chemistry, physics, math and social sciences. I've also helped tons of students prepare for PSATs, SATs, SAT IIs, AP exams and the MCAT. I've worked with students of all ages, from super-creative elementary school kids who want to keep learning during summer break, to highly motivated college graduates applying to competitive medical schools. I've also worked with many students who have learning disabilities and difficulty with specific subjects.
My special gift as a teacher is being able to help people through their conceptual blocks from the inside, by getting to know their thought process as if it were my own. I've developed a lot of tools to help my students break through to the key insights that will allow you to easily understand and remember material, and I'm good at judging which ones are best for your learning style. I'm also pretty cool for the amount of geek credit I've got, so I make tutoring fun!
I'm also available for college counseling, essay editing and med school admissions counseling.
Can't wait to start our work together!
