ACT English
With experience as a professional editor, James will help students identify the errors commonly found on the ACT. He has coached students to perfect scores in this section. James also helps students learn essay structure to not only improve their grammar, but also their reading and writing skills.
ACT Math
James had a perfect score on the ACT math section. He also teaches classes that focus on math strategy on standardized tests. James has very effective methods that help students break down math problems into more manageable parts. This is ideal for students who are nervous test takers and students who have trouble finishing on time.
ACT Reading
James teaches standardized test classes that focus on essay structure and reading. His methods will help students finish the reading section on time. He also helps students improve their overall reading comprehension and challenges students to read for deeper meaning.
ACT Science
More than any other section, ACT science depends on method and strategy. Some students have improved their scores by as many as 10 points in this section. James has effective and unique strategies that students find especially useful in ACT science. He can boast that he scored a 36 in this section when he took the test.
College Counseling
James has helped students prepare their college application essays for over 6 years. He helps students discover their own personal voice for the admissions essay. He even knows what colleges are looking for in the interview process. His students have been accepted to top schools including Yale, Columbia, NYU, University of Chicago, Tufts, Vanderbilt, USC, UCLA, Northwestern, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, and many others.
Film
James holds a Master of Fine Arts from the American Film Institute. He also has a Bachelor of Arts in film/video from the University of Michigan. He spent two years reading screenplays in Hollywood working in different literary departments including Twisted Pictures (the Saw franchise). He specializes in screenplay structure.
ISEE
James has helped students prepare for the ISEE for the past 6 years. He can teach all sections of the test. His students have raised their scores significantly. He also has experience with the age groups who take this test as a substitute teacher in the school system.
SAT Math
SAT math requires a patient and logical deductive approach. Too often, students rush through this section and make mistakes that they normally wouldn't make. For this reason, even experienced math students can become frustrated with the math section. James teaches classes that focus on math strategy on standardized tests. He has very effective methods that help students break down math problems into more manageable parts. This is ideal for students who are nervous test takers and students who have trouble finishing on time. James also had a perfect score on the very difficult SAT II math II test.
SAT Reading
SAT reading is the most difficult part of the SAT to master. James has experience teaching standardized test classes that focus on the critical reading section. His methods will help students finish the reading section on time. He also helps students improve their overall reading comprehension and challenges students to read for deeper meaning.
SAT Writing
James holds a Master of Fine Arts in writing. Many of his students have achieved perfect scores in this section. SSAT
