Currently, I am working as a substitute teacher and professional tutor. After fulfilling the requirements at Fordham University's Graduate School of Education, I was awarded a Master of Science in Teaching Adolescence English. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature, and a strong foundation in all content areas from the College of Mt. Saint Vincent. I am New York State certified -English Language Arts, grades 7-12.
My teaching skills were not merely skills that I have acquired from academe. I have acquired transferable skills from my years in the publishing and entertainment industries. Working with high visibility clients (authors and entertainers), provided me with skills needed in all industries. Having accomplished what is considered to be a radical transition, I am capable of coaching and teaching my students to be goal-oriented. Over the last five years, as a student teacher, substitute teacher and professional tutor, I have prepared students to be successful learners and test takers. I have tutored English Language Arts, Social Studies and writing on all levels--middle school, high school and college.
As a result of my own experiences, my style of teaching is to encourage students to be active learners. Learning by doing or hands-on is effective in the classroom.
I am of the belief that education is not about acquiring perfection; it is about acquiring knowledge. An effective teacher and tutor promotes academic success by encouraging students to be comfortable with learning.
