Here's a little bit about me...
After completing my B.S. in biology with a minor in chemistry, I pursued my interests in science by working in the pharmaceutical industry as a research scientist. I found my time there to be fruitful at first but later would find its monotony extinguishing the aspects of my personality that bring out the very best in me—communication, creativity and enthusiasm in science!
Having had a glimpse at teaching as a teacher's assistant in college, I applied for a position as a high school science teacher—teaching every level of biology from ESL Regents to AP® as well as an Anatomy and Physiology senior elective and later inclusion Regents Earth Science.
I've been described by a former boss as having the "teaching gene." Being a good teacher is more than just having students learn facts through rote memorization; it's about helping them weave those facts together to see the big picture that is the natural world around us. One of my favorite quotes helps to emphasize this:
Science is facts; just as houses are made of stone, so is science made of facts; but a pile of stones is not a house, and a collection of facts is not necessarily science.

I've immersed myself in science and thoroughly enjoy sharing everything I've learned be it from the latest book I've read, going to Charles Darwin's house as part of my honeymoon (thankfully I married a science teacher) or my most recent trip to study the geology of Hawaii. These experiences allow me to present real world scenarios where science impacts our lives on a daily basis rather than working with a student and doing vocabulary review for an hour.
