Hello. My name is Hallie. I am an Ivy-League educated private tutor for over a decade. I graduated as salutatorian from Clarkstown High School South in West Nyack, N.Y., and received National Merit Commended Scholar Distinction. I then entered the University of Pennsylvania where I majored in the Biological Basis of Behavior and minored in Biology & Psychology. I graduated from UPENN with summa cum laude distinction. I then obtain a graduate degree from UMDNJ, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where I received my Master's of Science in Biomedical Sciences.

I am very well qualified to teach and tutors students in nearly any subject from pre-Kindegraten through elementary, middle, high school, college, and graduate school. I tutor students in Mathematics, the Sciences-Biology and Chemistry at any level, English, and Spanish, as well as many specialty subject areas-including Anatomy and Physiology at the college level. One of my specialties is preparing students for Test Preparation at any age for standardized tests, including the PSAT, SAT, and ACT Exams, as well as SAT II subject exams for college preparation. I also tutor students for private school admissions testing including the ISEE and SSAT exams, as well as private school and college admissions coaching and processes.

Algebra 1

Algebra I is one of my strongest subjects. I have been tutoring in Algebra I for 10 years. I taught Algebra I as a private tutor and as a teacher at a learning academy. I am very qualified to teach Algebra I to students. I also took all high school and college math courses through Calculus B/C and received an "A" in each course.

Algebra 2

I tutor students in Algebra II, including all content areas covered in the course, including linear relations, composition of functions, polynomial, radical and quadratic functions, as well as exponential and log functions. Other content areas included in Algebra II tutoring may consist of systems of equations, inequalities, rational expressions/exponents, sequences/series, and conics (ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas).

American History

As a student, I always received As in my history courses including social students, American History, European History, and the AP History courses. I have also tutored students in history for the past 5 years. I am qualified to teach American History to a student through the college level.

Biology

Biology may be my strongest subject. I was a Biological Basis of Behavior major at UPENN in college with minors in Biology & Psychology. I have taken numerous introductory and upper-level high school and college and graduate school Biology courses and am very qualified to teach/tutor in the subject. I have been teaching Biology for over a decade.

Chemistry

I took AP Chemistry in high school and received an A in the course and a 5 on the exam. I also took chemistry courses in college and graduate school, including general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry, etc.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is one of my strongest subjects. I have studied vocabulary words for over a decade and have tutored students in vocabulary for over 5 years. I am qualified to tutor in this subject.

Grammar

I am certified to teach English grammar to students and have been teaching students grammar for many years. I have always excelled at grammar and have always received As in English courses.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel since college to create spreadsheets. I also used Excel as a work study student in graduate school. I am well-versed in Excel and can tutor a student in Microsoft Excel.

Geometry

Geometry is one of my strongest subjects. I have always excelled in math and the sciences. I took advanced math courses throughout high school and college and took AP Calculus B/C, in which I received an "A".

Prealgebra

I tutor many students in Pre-Algebra, and they successfully improve their grades as a result of my general teaching/tutoring abilities and knowledge of Mathematics.

I am an experienced reading tutor. I have taught many elementary school, middle school, and high school students in the subject of reading. I have helped the students improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and ability to read and write.

Spanish

I have studied Spanish since Middle School. In high school I took upper-level Spanish courses including AP Spanish Language. I have travelled to many Spanish-speaking countries and am considered proficient in Spanish. I am very capable of tutoring Spanish to students.

Astronomy

In every subject that I tutor, I offer students an individualized study plan including study skills, strategies, as well as core content areas. I tailor my tutoring style to best suite each student's individual needs. I enjoy learning about and teaching astronomy.

English

I have been taking Honors English courses since 8th grade. I took AP English Language and AP English Literature at Clarkstown High School South in West Nyack, NY, and received 5s on these exams. Psychology

As a college student at UPENN, I minored in Psychology. I took many psychology courses and received A's in all psychology courses I took. I am qualified to teach introductory, abnormal, developmental, and advanced psychology.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry is one of my strongest subjects. As a Biological Basis of Behavior major at UPENN and a Master's Student in Biomedical Sciences, I took many courses in Biochemistry and received "As" in all of these courses. I tutored students in Biochemistry for the past 3 years and am qualified to tutor in Biochemistry.

Anatomy

I took Anatomy and Physiology 101 in College and received an "A" in the subject. I also took the laboratory portion accompanying the course for anatomical and physiological observation and identification. I tutored a few students in Anatomy & Physiology and am qualified to tutor in the subject.

Physiology

As a college student, I took Anatomy and Physiology and received an A in the course. As a Bio major, I excelled in all Science courses in both college and graduate school. I am qualified to teach both Anatomy and Physiology.

SAT Math

I am an experienced test prep tutor for all subjects of the SAT Exam, including the SAT Math sections, which contain multiple choice and free-response questions. I took the GRE for graduate school admissions and did well on the exam. I am qualified to teach the GRE to students. I have previously tutored a student in the GRE and welcome the opportunity to tutor more students in the GRE.

Law

I have worked per diem at a law office since 1999 and am quite familiar with the basics of the law. I can tutor students in introductory law. I also took Legal Studies 101 at the Wharton School of Business.

GED

My educational background and knowledge allows me to excel at teaching students who are studying for the GED exam. I address content areas of concern, as well as study skills and strategies to help students achieve the highest grade possible on their GED exam.

SAT Reading

I have been tutoring students in the Reading Section of the SAT for a number of years. As an experienced academic ad test prep tutor who prepares students for in aspects of the SAT exam.

My students have done well on the Reading Section of the SATs as a result of tutoring. I am currently tutor several students to help them prepare for the SAT Reading portions of the SAT exam, including Reading Comprehension & aspects involving vocabulary expansion in preparation for the SAT.

SAT Writing

Philosophy

At the University of Pennsylvania, I took Philosophy 101 and received an A in this course. I am well-versed in the basic ideas and beliefs of philosophy and I can teach a student introductory philosophy.

PSAT

I have been tutoring students in the PSAT for a number of years. All of my PSAT students have always done well on the exam as a result of preparing with me. I am willing and qualified to tutor the PSAT.

Spelling

I have received As in all English honors, AP, and college courses that I have taken. I have always excelled in and am qualified to tutor a student in Spelling.

ACT English

I have been teaching and tutoring students in ACT test prep for over a decade. The ACT English section is a favorite subject area of mine. For the ACT English section, we focus on grammar and usage, mechanics, style, and language utilization and analysis, including diction, syntax, and tone of the passage.

ACT Math

I have been teaching Mathematics to students for many years and have helped many students achieve high scores in core areas of Mathematics covered on the ACT Math exam, including Algebra I/II and Geometry.

Elementary Math

I have been tutoring students in Elementary Math for a number of years now, both at a learning academy and privately. I have tutored numerous students in grades 1-6 in Math. I have emphasized fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, word problems, and other concepts some students may find challenging.

Elementary Science

The extensive education that I have received in the Sciences enables me to excel in tutoring students science at the Elementary school level. I possess a general knowledge of material covered in science in elementary school, and I excel at teaching the Sciences to students of all educational and grade levels.

Elementary (K-6th)

General Music

I have been studying music since grade 4. I have played flute and piccolo for over 18 years. I am well-versed in many different areas of music. I enjoy music as a hobby and can teach a student the essentials of music, whether it be classical or of another genre.

As an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, I took Music40 or Music History. Phonics

As a tutor for over a decade, I have tutored many young students in phonics. As a student who has taken AP English courses and English courses at the University of Pennsylvania, I am highly trained in the ability to teach phonics to individuals. I received an A in all my English courses.

Study Skills

I have tutored students in study skills for test prep, high school, and college students for over a decade. I have helped many students increase their scores by full letter grades when I tutor in study skills. Study skills have been a strength of mine for almost 15 years.

Swimming

I have been swimming since age 3. I have given and received swimming lessons since age 3. I have taught many individuals to swim, to dive, how to perform different swimming strokes, as well as exercising in the pool.

ESL/ESOL

I have taken all high school courses in upper level English through AP English Literature and AP English Language, on which I received a 5 on the AP examinations. I have taught many hispanic individuals how to speak English due to my bilingualism. I am able to teach basic English to students of other cultures and languages. I am very qualified to teach the English Language and English as a Second Language to students.

Botany

As a Biological Basis of Behavior Major at the University of Pennsylvania, with a minor in Biology, I took many course components on Botany. I also took portions of Botany as a graduate student and am qualified to teach Botany to a student.

I took the Kaplan MCAT course, studied for the MCAT for several years and took the exam; however, I cancelled my MCAT score. Regardless of whether or not I scored on the MCAT, I have tutored students in MCAT subjects --Biological and Physical Sciences--for many years. I am fully qualified to teach the MCAT to students and have review books as well.

Cooking

I can cook many meals with chicken, vegetables, pasta, fish, meat, etc. I have been cooking for a decade.

Career Development

I have been coaching students on career choices and career placement in different industries passed on their qualifications and personalities for over 3 years. I have been consulting with students in Career Development and also received formal training in Career Development via a Career Development Coach. College Counseling

I have been counseling students in the college admissions process, essay writing and technique, entrance examination strategies and testing, as well as other aspects associated with College Counseling for over a decade. Pharmacology

I took pharmacology 101 at the University of Pennsylvania and received an A. I have taken other courses in graduate school in pharmacology and am well-versed in the subject. I have tutored several students in pharmacology. I have also taken neuropsychopharmacology courses.

Regents

I took all courses required by New York State's Regents Diploma Board. I took all honors courses and 11 AP courses in high school. I received all "A"s on my Regents Exams in MathI/II (Algebra), English, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, U.S. History,and other Regents Courses.
