Literacy K-12, Autism Spectrum and Special Needs Tutor

I am a NY, NJ state certified teacher, with certification in Early Childhood, Childhood and Students with Special Needs. I have taught inner-city children from grades Pre-K through 5th and Early Intervention in both the classroom and students' homes. Whatever the setting, I incorporate teaching methods based on current educational research while fostering each child's strength and imagination. I teach all aspects of literacy; reading in all content areas, decoding skills, and the stages of the writing process. Using multi-sensory techniques, I make learning fun by engaging a student's interests and strengths.

In addition to working with struggling students, I have extensive experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum and other learning disabilities including: Developmental Delays, ADD and ADHD, Speech and Language Delays and Socio-Emotional Delays. I offer a unique blend of ABA and Developmental Relational techniques to encourage the maximum growth in each student.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught grades Pre-K through 5th in inner city schools and have extensive knowledge of curriculum and the developmental arc of learning throughout the elementary grades.

Phonics

I'm experienced using Wilson Fundations, a phonics program used throughout the country.

Study Skills

i teach study skills using multi- sensory interventions including graphic organizers, auditory and visual aids. I tailor techniques to the needs of each student.

ADD/ADHD

I have experience in providing remediations for ADD/ADHD by breaking learning down into smaller, more manageable steps. This compensates for lack of concentration while allowing the student to build learning stamina and focus. I also use graphic organizers to create a step by step reference for the student.

Autism

I have provided interventions for children on the Asperger's/Autism spectrum using both ABA (Applied behavioral Analysis) and developmental/ multi-sensory techniques.

Dyslexia

I have been trained in treating dyslexia using researched based multi-sensory reading techniques.
