I am a communications major at Pace University, with a minor in Fine Arts and Spanish. I have been a peer leader in my study groups. I have been tutoring for about 5 years. I have tutored my mother for her GED studies in both math and writing. For two years I have worked at a summer camp in the Bronx to tutor and help students with their homework and in subjects they struggle with. I use different methods to allow the student to find what is the best way for them to learn. I try to find a fun way to make the subject interesting or fun so that the interest is stirred. My motto is that everyone can do anything because once a person is able to understand a concept, he or she is able to do it with practice and master it. I believe that the hardest problems can be simplified so that persons of every level are able to understand.
Some of the methods I use are:
-FLASH CARD- Students are able to put the cards in their purses or pockets and study them anywhere when they get the chance.
-PRACTICE EXAMS- Allow students to effectively get results of upcoming testing. This is proven to be the most effective method so far for me.
-STUDENT TEACH- Students will have the ability to explain and show their reasoning. By explaining a solution, a person is more likely to maintain the information.
-VISUAL LEARNING- Some people learn from what they see. They may be able to remember what letters were on a card or what the picture represented.
-ORAL EXAMS (For Spanish and English tutees)- This creates a better environment where you are able to listen to words and sentences and hear how they are pronounced. For those who want to improve on writing and reading skills, this can be very helpful. I encourage students to listen, write and look for things that remind them of the work they try to accomplish.
Every student is able to express his/herself whether through music, reading, writing or playing an instrument.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn anything. There is no limit in what the brain can hold.
I am an Fine Arts minor at Pace University. I have completed classes in drawing where I use different tools to draw. I have had at least seven pieces of drawing in my school's art show case. I have used the charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, drawing pencils and the rubber. I know how to do blind contour drawing and other different techniques of drawing. I have experience in drawing portraits, landscapes in pastel and charcoal, still life, emulations of master work, perspectives, abstract drawings, contours, blind contours, free hand, hard-edge and hatching.I have been drawing for 5 years and I have tutored my sister for years and she now has a developed a passion for drawing. She follows and develops on the guidelines we practiced.
I have been a creative arts teacher during the summer for 4 years. I volunteer at my church's vacation bible school where we teach girls how to do embroidery during the creative arts section. My mother does dress making as a side job and sells uniforms and clothing. I know how to make blouses, to how hem, how to base the edges and I know how to do decorating using embroidery threads. The techniques I use are the Chinese knots, the stem stitch, blanket stitch, back stitch, cross stitch, chain stitch, the long and short stitch, the padding and bosnian stitch. I have experience in the Arts for many years.
I have completed classes in Public speaking and public relations where I had to learn how to do presentations and the techniques of a presentation. In the course, I was taught how to make sure the audience receives the message the way you aim to. There, I learned some of the ways to get over the fear of public speaking. As a speaker for the Operation Christmas Child, a subgroup under the Samaritan's purse, I know how to effectively engage my audience and win them over. The tips and guidelines make it easier for even the shyest person to present publicly. With the use of flash cards, visuals and/or power point presentations, the person is able to build upon their main points. I received an A in the course at the end of the semester.
Spanish for beginners and for intermediate learners.
I have studied music and I have been singing for as long as I can remember talking. I have learned how to take care of my most delicate instrument which are my vocal cords. Singing has a lot to do with public speaking. If a person has a fear of speaking in front of a large audience, then it may cause problems singing there too. As an artist, I have done many backup singing, I have had a significant amount of singing, performance and musical experience. This includes professional to amateur singers. I have been to many vocal training in the tri-state area and I have taught others including my younger sisters now 17 and 15 certain vocal techniques especially hobby singers who want to gain confidence and an intro to performance and singing.Since the start of this year I have been selected to perform in the midst of congressmen and senates at a cultural event to commence with the national anthem and other pieces. Music has been a lifestyle and of second nature to me, growing up in a musical family.
