Elementary (K-6th)

In England I taught children (aged 5-11 years) the full curriculum including phonics, reading, writing and mathematics. My B.Ed Hons degree in Education and History qualified me to do this.

Elementary Math

I was a class teacher for many years and taught the full maths curriculum to children aged 5 to 11.

English

I taught all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to children when teaching. It was part of my daily routine. I am also qualified to teach all aspects of English to non-native speakers.

ESL/ESOL

I have been accredited with the TESOL, International, New York (TEFL/TESOL Certification earlier this year.

I have been certified to teach Business English (TITC course).

Grammar

Teaching grammar was part of the content of my daily English lessons when I was a class teacher in England.

Phonics

In England I taught children (aged 5-11 years) the full curriculum including phonics, reading, writing and mathematics. My B.Ed Hons degree in Education and History qualified me to do this.

Reading

Teaching reading was one of the daily activities in my classroom. I also taught small groups and one to one for pupils needed booster sessions in reading.

Spelling

Teaching spelling was part of the weekly routines in my classroom incorporating differentiated exercises in class and homework tasks.

Study Skills

In England, I taught children (aged 5-11 years). The full curriculum including phonics, reading, writing and mathematics. My B.Ed Hons degree in Education and History qualified me to do this.

Vocabulary

I have taught vocabulary as part of language lessons with students being given vocabulary lists appropriate to their ability. They were tested on these lists on a weekly basis. The tests related to spelling and meaning.

When teaching a foreign language, in my case French, vocabulary teaching formed part of each session and was taught in a meaningful context.

Writing

Different aspects of writing were taught on a daily basis in my English lessons. Each year group had specific content that needed to be taught. Pupils learned how to draft, re-draft and produce final pieces of writing. They were taught how to write different types of essays.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
