I have been a teacher throughout my career with a passionate belief that good teaching makes a difference in people's lives. I am a native English speaker. We moved to New York in June 2011 as a result of my husband's job relocation.
Shortly after arriving here, I attended the TESOL International School, New York, and was successful in being accredited as a TESOL teacher. In February 2012 I achieved accreditation in Teaching Business English. I am very much enjoying this change in my career, applying my knowledge, skills and experience in a new field of education. I love teaching my private students and am receiving good feedback from them.
My career in England involved a wide range of roles and responsibilities from class teacher to senior leader in an Early Years department, to deputy headteacher (vice-principal) to headteacher (principal) to education adviser/consultant. I also delivered training for trainee teachers, newly qualified teachers, established teachers, parents, governors, headteachers and their senior leadership teams. I have thoroughly enjoyed all my teaching experiences and love working with people. In addition, I coached and mentored students, newly qualified teachers, teachers and headteachers.
I try very hard to make the learning experience relevant and enjoyable with as much participation from the learners as possible. I ask learners for their input and feedback and use this to inform my planning and delivery.
I am a volunteer at the International Center in New York, and have completed my training to be a conversation partner.
Throughout my career I have demonstrated excellent people and communication (face-to-face, spoken and written) skills. I am energetic with a positive outlook. I am professional but approachable and believe that 'you reap what you sow' and this drives me to work hard to do the very best I can in any job I undertake.
I love to travel, enjoy reading, jewelery making, knitting, going to the theatre and live concerts, cooking, watching rugby, and playing tennis and walking. I am also a reader for a literary and film agency in London. I have been a teacher throughout my career with a passionate belief that good teaching makes a difference in people's lives. Carol has made my daughter very happy about learning all the 3rd grade material that she reviews with her. My family is blessed to meet Carol!
Mrs. Carol was great! My daughter cant wait to go over everything she learned during her sessions. She wants to read all the time (anything: books, menus, instructions, etc.). Mrs. Carol also made the sessions fun with switching activities and with learning games etc. I'm glad I did this and believe my daughter will feel very confident starting Kindergarten already being introduced to reading, writing and math. Thank you Mrs. Carol!
Carol teaches English to my children, who have just come to US and can't speak English. They really enjoy her classes and are looking forward to seeing her every week. She brings hand-made materials or books which is suitable for English learner every time and my children. The class started just a few month ago but, because of her devoted effort, they are gaining skills and confidence in speaking English!!!
Thank you for this very kind feedback. It is very much appreciated. I would like to say that Minami and Kaito are a joy to teach and I enjoy my sessions with them very much.
I was a class teacher for many years and taught the full maths curriculum to children aged 5 to 11.
I taught all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to children when teaching. It was part of my daily routine. I am also qualified to teach all aspects of English to non-native speakers.
Teaching reading was one of the daily activities in my classroom. I also taught small groups and one to one for pupils needed booster sessions in reading.
Teaching spelling was part of the weekly routines in my classroom incorporating differentiated exercises in class and homework tasks.
I have taught vocabulary as part of language lessons with students being given vocabulary lists appropriate to their ability. They were tested on these lists on a weekly basis. The tests related to spelling and meaning.
When teaching a foreign language, in my case French, vocabulary teaching formed part of each session and was taught in a meaningful context.
