I am a communications major at Pace University, with a minor in Fine Arts and Spanish. I have been a peer leader in my study groups. I have been tutoring for about 5 years. I have tutored my mother for her GED studies in both math and writing. For two years I have worked at a summer camp in the Bronx to tutor and help students with their homework and in subjects they struggle with. I use different methods to allow the student to find what is the best way for them to learn. I try to find a fun way to make the subject interesting or fun so that the interest is stirred. My motto is that everyone can do anything because once a person is able to understand a concept, he or she is able to do it with practice and master it. I believe that the hardest problems can be simplified so that persons of every level are able to understand.
Some of the methods I use are:
-FLASH CARD- Students are able to put the cards in their purses or pockets and study them anywhere when they get the chance.
-PRACTICE EXAMS- Allow students to effectively get results of upcoming testing. This is proven to be the most effective method so far for me.
-STUDENT TEACH- Students will have the ability to explain and show their reasoning. By explaining a solution, a person is more likely to maintain the information.
-VISUAL LEARNING- Some people learn from what they see. They may be able to remember what letters were on a card or what the picture represented.
-ORAL EXAMS (For Spanish and English tutees)- This creates a better environment where you are able to listen to words and sentences and hear how they are pronounced. For those who want to improve on writing and reading skills, this can be very helpful. I encourage students to listen, write and look for things that remind them of the work they try to accomplish.
Every student is able to express his/herself whether through music, reading, writing or playing an instrument.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn anything. There is no limit in what the brain can hold.
