I have been a teacher throughout my career with a passionate belief that good teaching makes a difference in people's lives. I am a native English speaker. We moved to New York in June 2011 as a result of my husband's job relocation.
Shortly after arriving here, I attended the TESOL International School, New York, and was successful in being accredited as a TESOL teacher. In February 2012 I achieved accreditation in Teaching Business English. I am very much enjoying this change in my career, applying my knowledge, skills and experience in a new field of education. I love teaching my private students and am receiving good feedback from them.
My career in England involved a wide range of roles and responsibilities from class teacher to senior leader in an Early Years department, to deputy headteacher (vice-principal) to headteacher (principal) to education adviser/consultant. I also delivered training for trainee teachers, newly qualified teachers, established teachers, parents, governors, headteachers and their senior leadership teams. I have thoroughly enjoyed all my teaching experiences and love working with people. In addition, I coached and mentored students, newly qualified teachers, teachers and headteachers.
I try very hard to make the learning experience relevant and enjoyable with as much participation from the learners as possible. I ask learners for their input and feedback and use this to inform my planning and delivery.
I am a volunteer at the International Center in New York, and have completed my training to be a conversation partner.
Throughout my career I have demonstrated excellent people and communication (face-to-face, spoken and written) skills. I am energetic with a positive outlook. I am professional but approachable and believe that 'you reap what you sow' and this drives me to work hard to do the very best I can in any job I undertake.
I love to travel, enjoy reading, jewelery making, knitting, going to the theatre and live concerts, cooking, watching rugby, and playing tennis and walking. I am also a reader for a literary and film agency in London.
