I have over 6 years of experience working with students privately, in classrooms and in store front tutoring companies and specialize in SAT Math, ACT Math, SSAT / COOP / Johns Hopkins, Algebra I & II and Geometry.
I can offer you the best techniques and strategies that I've picked up over the years. Your child will work on specific content to strengthen weak areas, complete practice tests to prepare for the real thing and touch on virtually every topic and question type that they can be faced with.
I can come to you so your child can work in the comfort of your own home, supply materials, and I'm also easy to work with so that we can be sure your son or daughter gets the help they need.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have.
When preparing for the Math portion of the ACT, students need to be aware of the content and material of the test and master the presentation of the material. The ACT is a lot different from a Regents Exam or the SAT. The questions may be more straight forward that the SAT, but can be more challenging to those not familiar with subjects like matrices, logarithms and trigonometry.
I have my ACT students actively pinpoint their weaker areas, I praise their strengths, and encourage them practice under the same conditions as the real test to maximize time management and focus on target scores to maximize improvement.
Algebra I may be the most important math class your child ever has. Strong statement, I know, but children that struggle with Algebra tend to struggle in the more advanced math classes or even give up. This is why a strong foundation in algebra is imperative. Those that can comprehend and master algebra during the early years of secondary school will succeed in their other math classes.
The students that work with me in Algebra are taught that it's much more than just X's and Y's. I show my students how to solve for each unknown almost like it's a puzzle and how to work backwards to arrive at their solution.
Many people who need help with Algebra 2 struggle with new concepts like functions and conic sections (parabolas, ellipses, etc) and trigonometry.
I relate these topics to things that my students interact with on a daily basis such as music, finances, history, star wars and technology.
As a graduate of private catholic schools, I have not only taken the COOP, but I understand the academic rigor that they are preparing for. The students that work with me to prepare for this test practice on old COOP/HSPT tests, I use 8th and 9th grade material to instruct the core content that's tested and even introduce SAT level material to sharpen their problem solving abilities.
Quite possibly one of the most important test some may ever take in their life.
With my assistance you can master the fundamentals needed to succeed. I can help you with study skills, take notes to help remember key concepts and practice to help with time management and breakdown tricky word problems to their bare bones.
Geometry is a very visual and logical subject.
That being said, once we improve study skills and note taking to understand the key concepts, its a matter of working with visuals to come to an answer. There are different successful methods that I've used in the past that helps students that may not be visual learners.
Another topic in Geometry that many disdain is proofs. A lot of people don't even know why they need to learn them. I explain to my students the importance of geometric proofs and relate it to fields like law, computer science and constructing an actual argument.
I have been tutoring SAT math for over six years. In my experience I've designed amended programs tailored to students' specific needs.
Great first lesson. — I was very impressed with Justins first session with my daughter. He reviewed her recent PSAT exam and did a great job in teaching her test taking strategies. ...
