Hi, my name is Shashi, and I have been teaching in many capacities since 1989. The most important thing to know about me is that I love teaching! I have taught high school math and physics in a New York City school in the South Bronx, and in a suburban school in central Massachusetts. I have been part of the original faculty for 3 start-up schools in New Hampshire and New York, where I wrote or co-wrote the mathematics, physics, and SAT preparation curricula. I have observed, instructed, and evaluated high school math and physics teachers in most of the Washington, DC, public high schools.
More recently, I have tutored high school students for 3 years in Westchester County, New York, with a special focus on SAT/ACT/AP/SAT II preparation. I have personally done every question on every released SAT test from the past 10 years. I have also tutored pre-med college students at Columbia University as they prepared for the MCAT.
I believe that learning requires hard work, but can still be interesting and even fun. I also believe strongly that people assimilate information in very different ways. It is my responsibility as a teacher to get to know each student well enough so that I can adjust instruction to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. I have vast experience with accommodating students who have a variety of learning styles and needs.
My academic background is in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, so I enjoy demonstrating how theory and real world applications are connected. I have led high school student teams in the US FIRST Robotics competition and worked with another group to build a trebuchet (old French siege engine) that fired a 16 pound bowling ball over 2 football fields. I have led several student groups on week long Habitat for Humanity trips in storm damaged Charleston, SC, and New Orleans, LA.
Please contact me to see if we will be a good fit working together.

I have taught physical science, physics, AP Physics B & C, and International Baccalaureate Physics multiple years at multiple high schools. I have written curricula for these courses at 3 different start up high schools.
I have taught all high school math classes ranging from Pre-algebra to AP Calculus BC as well as International Baccalaureate HL Math. I have written the curriculum for Pre-Algebra at 3 different start up high schools. I have also taught at a middle high school and tutored multiple students in Pre-Algebra.
I have written the probability curriculum for 2 start up high schools. I believe that probability is amongst the most challenging fields in mathematics for high school students (more so than calculus) and instruction will focus on both theory and simulation.
I tutored at Advantage Testing of Westchester for 3 years. During this time I prepared students for the PSAT/SAT/SAT II/ACT and AP exams. I also wrote the curriculum for a PSAT/SAT prep class at Bow High School in New Hampshire and taught the class for several years. While a high school student, taking the PSAT allowed me to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship.
I have written curricula for new high schools in New Hampshire and New York with an eye to aligning the curricula with state testing standards. I have tutored hundreds of students for standardized testing ranging from GED to ACT to SAT to AP to MCAT. This combination of experiences connecting school curricula to standardized testing is at the heart of preparing for excellence while taking the Regents.
I have personally done all SAT Math questions from every released test over the past 20 years and can certainly share that experience with students.
I have personally done all SAT Reading questions from every released test over the past 20 years. I can share strategies with students who are slow readers as well as those who wish to improve vocabulary identification.
I have taught in high school classrooms from 1989 to 2008 in New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Washington DC. During this time I have worked with teenagers from every background possible with the full spectrum of learning needs. In addition, I have made a living as a full time tutor since 2009 with a wide spectrum of students including those aspiring to Ivy league schools, GED track students, and home schooled teenagers. I have an expansive background regarding learning styles and am adept at assessing students learning strengths and weaknesses, followed by recommending suggestions for extension or remediation. I believe that I can quickly determine specific organisational skills that may benefit a particular individual.
I have written the Trigonometry curriculum for 2 start up high schools. I have ample experience in simplifying the proof of trigonometric identities.
Great tutor that came through in a bind — I recently got tutored by Shashi for a summer Calc 1 class. Before I met with him, my test grades were on a steady decline and headed for the worst. When I first met with him, I had about a week of the class and two tests left to go. He ended up identifying and fixing my problems associated with the poor test scores and I couldn't be happier with the results. He is a very friendly guy and is extre ...
