I have taught a diverse population of students, grades six through twelve, for the last 26 years. Most of my career was spent in an inner city Middle school in the Bronx where I worked with Honors students, remedial students, and special needs students. I am familiar with the Wilson Phonics program as well as SAT prep and creative writing. Most importantly, I really enjoy working with students. I retired from my Middle School job on July 1st, 2011. The students had nothing to do with my retirement--rather, it was the adults that got on my nerves! Many of my students have told me that I am like a kid in an older lady's body. I consider that a compliment! I believe that true, lasting learning goes hand in hand with humor!

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught 6th grade for at least five years during my career as a Middle School teacher.

Phonics

I taught the Wilson language phonics system for two years to semi-literate and illiterate sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. I received 2 weeks of training in Wilson language systems, a phonics-based instruction.

Special Needs

I have recently worked at Stony Lodge Hospital in Ossining NY, an adolescent inpatient psychiatric hospital, and at Green Chimneys in Brewster NY, a residential working farm/school for children with special needs.

ADD/ADHD

I was the general education teacher in a collaborative team teaching 8th grade reading class. I planned and taught collaboratively with the special education teacher.
